Motivations for working

01.03.2013 | 2357 դիտում

Employee motivation is an employee's inherent enthusiasm about and drive to accomplish work. Motivation is prevalent in workplaces where people are treated as valued human beings. Trust, respect, civil conversation, and listening prevail in a workplace that fosters employee motivation. Motivating employees about work is the combination of fulfilling their needs and expectations from work and workplace factors, enabling employee motivation - or not. Everyone has different motivations for working. We all work as we obtain something that we need from work. And that something, obtained from work, impacts our morale and motivation, the quality of our lives. Some people work for love, some for personal fulfillment. Others like to attain certain goals and feel like they are contributing to something important. Some people have personal duties they accomplish through meaningful work. Others truly love their work, the clients they serve. Some employees like change, challenge, and diverse problems to solve. Motivation is individual and diverse. No matter what your personal reasons for working are, the bottom line for employee motivation is that almost everyone works for money. Whatever you call it: compensation, salary, bonuses, benefits or remuneration, money pays the bills. It provides housing, gives clothing and food, and allows leisure activities, and eventually, retirement. To underplay the importance of money and benefits as motivation for people who work is a mistake. Fair benefits and pay are the cornerstone of a successful company which recruits and retains committed employees. If employees are provided with a fair living wage, you can then work on additional motivation issues. Without the living wage you risk losing your best workers to a better-paying employer.
